A Novice Pilgrim in Spain

Walking the Camino de Santiago is both a cultural immersion and a sacred journey. Join John Mahar on Monday September 21st at 7:00pm at St. Eds as he shares his experience as a first‑time pilgrim on Spain’s most traveled route, the Camino Francés. Throughout the evening, John will reflect on the physical demands of the trail, the unexpected spiritual moments, the striking beauty of the Spanish countryside, and the determination required to reach Santiago de Compostela.

Biography

John Mahar is a retired civil servant and current Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus council 11064. In addition to their volunteer work, John and his wife love walking, hiking, and camping, and have seen most of the 50 states. John also enjoys backpacking with a friend through remote New York trails. He just completed his first Camino in June 2026.

St. Edwards Knights of Columbus Council 11064 is conducting a charitable fundraising campaign in conjunction with the Hoffman Car Wash organization’s Helping Hands program. The Council will receive 50% of the purchases made through this program which will end on October 31, 2026. This is a great way to contribute to the charities supported by the Knights and get your vehicle cleaned in the process.

Please join us with Miller’s Back Yard BBQ and enjoy a freshly prepared barbequed chicken or smoked beef brisket dinner including a baked potato, cornbread and cole slaw. All orders are to be picked up on Thursday June 18th at St. Edwards Church at 576 Clifton Park Center Road between 4:00pm and 6:30pm. Prices are $15 for chicken and $20 for beef brisket.

Event: Ash Wednesday Knights of Columbus Fish Fry

Date / Time: Wednesday February 18, 2026 / 12noon – 6:00pm

Description: Dine in or take out / Fish Filet, French Fries, Mac and Cheese, Cole Slaw and Drinks.

Cost: $10 per person for adults, $5 per person for children (ages 6-12) and children 5 years and under are free (fish excluded).

Fr. Scott Council of the Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a Pasta Dinner to raise funds for charity. The Dinner will be at St Edwards (569 Clifton Park Center Road Clifton Park NY) on Saturday January 31 from 4-7pm. The proceeds will be shared with the Scouts and other local charities. Prices are $10 for adults, $5 for Children (ages 6-12) and Children 5 and under are Free. The meal Includes Pasta, Meatballs, Salad, Bread, Coffee, Tea and Bottled Water. Tickets can be purchased at the door or after weekend masses on Jan 17-18 and Jan 24-25.

Topic: Exploring Everyday Life during the Battles of Saratoga

Description: Join us as we explore the lives of a variety of individuals who experienced the Battles of Saratoga.  Learn about what brought them to the Saratoga District (as Saratoga County was then called), their experiences while here, and their fates after the battles.  Based on personal accounts written by those who witnessed the Turning Point of the American Revolution, this program offers a glimpse into the mundane details of daily life and the history-changing actions of farmers, laborers, teamsters, tradesmen, and others who answered the call to serve.  We’ll also learn about some of the local residents who saw this military campaign roll through their communities and farms.  Participants will also learn about opportunities to continue exploring history at upcoming events with Saratoga 250 and other local historical organizations.

About the Presenter: Anne Clothier grew up immersed in history on her family’s 200-year-old farm in northern Saratoga County. Her particular interests include women’s history, textiles, and medical history. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in History from SUNY College at Oneonta.  While attending the Cooperstown Graduate Program in Museum Studies, she gained experience working on projects at the Farmers’ Museum, Fenimore Art Museum, and New York State Historical Association. She worked as Director of Education at the Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum for over a decade before becoming Assistant to the Saratoga County Historian in 2024.
